Vision and Principles

Vision and Principles

The SGFP carries with it its own life, its own values and beliefs, whether it is for issues that must be addressed, standards to be developed, or support for those who are disadvantaged. These principles (i.e. values/beliefs) should both guide the organization's initiatives and help evaluate the success in fulfilling the organization's mission. The SGFP's Principles are defined as statements which identify the philosophical guidelines for all of our activities.

Dr. Cathy Mastrogiacomo

Section on General and Family Practice

“Family doctors are primary care specialists and the cornerstone of health-care teams. In the coming years, I hope that the one million Ontarians without a family doctor, and the 75 per cent of Ontarians excluded from government-funded Family Health Teams, gain access to a team-based family doctor. Family doctors require additional support by streamlining documentation, improving work-life balance, integrating seamless digital health and wellness tools, and receiving fair and equitable compensation for all facets of our work. If these hopes for sustainability are dashed, I predict an escalation of burnout and a continued exodus of family physicians from the profession.”

Vision

Family doctors practice in an efficient and supportive high-performing integrated health system, which optimizes physician wellness, sustainability, patient-centred care, and optimal health status. Ontarians are healthier through excellent family practice.

The SGFP developed and approved the following set of principles as part of its Strategic Plan:
