District 11 Primary Care Census

Dear SGFP District 11 Members,

I am writing to urge your participation in a crucial Primary Care Census for family physicians in the District 11 area. This initiative, which you've already been informed about by Dr. Hal Berman, District 11 Chair, on March 7, aims to map the supply of family physicians within each Primary Care Network (PCN).

While the SGFP's highest priority remains advocating for fair compensation for family physicians, we also recognize the importance of other supports for our profession. Our studies of other jurisdictions show that PCNs are a key vehicle for transforming primary care delivery.

The SGFP views this census as a critical step in understanding and improving our primary care landscape. While it's concerning that the provincial government has not taken the lead on this important endeavor, we recognize the need to move forward and ask that you support the University of Toronto and the Ontario Health Toronto Region in their efforts to conduct this census. Implementation and expansion of team-based care is a provincial priority, and this census will be important in gathering information to allocate more team resources to family physicians. We will continue to advocate for a more coordinated, province-wide approach to PCN development, operations and acceleration.

The census should take only 5–15 minutes to complete. Your participation will directly contribute to a stronger, more informed advocacy effort on behalf of family physicians in District 11:

In an upcoming Chair's letter, you'll hear more about our advocacy efforts surrounding PCNs from our Policy and Advocacy Lead, Dr. Beth Perrier.

Thank you for your time and commitment to improving primary care.

Warm Regards,
Dr. Dave Barber
SGFP Chair
